Nike Vapor Speed 铁杆

进阶型2015

The Vapor Speed was the forgiveness play in Nike's 2015 Vapor iron lineup, sitting below the Vapor Pro and Vapor Pro Combo that Rory McIlroy helped launch. While the Pro models chased better players, this one went after golfers who wanted distance and a bigger margin for error. It got both, mostly through a deep cavity, a wide sole, and Nike's NexCOR face that kept ball speed up on shots hit low or toward the heel.

Here's the part you can't ignore in hindsight. Nike quit the equipment business in August 2016, barely a year after these hit shelves. That makes the Vapor Speed one of the last game improvement irons Nike ever made, and it changes the buying math. There's no warranty support and no dealer network anymore, but used prices dropped hard because of it. If you can live without the corporate safety net, these irons deliver a lot of performance per dollar.

On the course, they behave the way a 2015 game improvement iron should. The ball launches high, mishits lose less distance than they deserve to, and the flight is stable in wind for a club this forgiving. It won't check up like a forged blade and the strong lofts mean your 7 iron is really a 6 in disguise, but that was true of everything in this category at the time.

简而言之

The Nike Vapor Speed (2015) is a forgiving game-improvement iron built for consistent distance.

About the Nike Vapor Speed

The core idea is what Nike called Modern Muscle geometry. Instead of stacking mass low and back the way most cavity backs did, Nike pushed the center of gravity toward the middle of the face, closer to where average golfers actually make contact. A lightweight RZN resin insert in the cavity freed up weight to make that happen, and it softens the sound at impact too. The result is a club that feels more solid on center strikes than its chunky profile suggests. Look at address and you'll know exactly what you're holding. There's a thick topline, noticeable offset, and a wide sole that helps the club skid through turf instead of digging. Nike wasn't trying to hide the forgiveness, and honestly the honest look works. The high-strength steel NexCOR face is thinner in the center and variable across the hitting area, which is where the distance on off-center hits comes from.

Who Should Play the Nike Vapor Speed?

  • Mid to high handicappers who want a high launching, forgiving iron and don't mind buying a discontinued brand on the used market.
  • Golfers upgrading from a 2010-era set who want modern distance without paying current retail prices.
  • Players who hit the ball low or thin frequently, since the wide sole and centered CG bail out exactly those misses.
  • Anyone who liked Nike's Covert irons and wants the cleaner, better-sounding follow-up.

常见问题

Are Nike Vapor Speed irons still worth buying?

For the price, yes. Used sets typically sell for a fraction of what comparable 2015 irons from Callaway or TaylorMade go for, and the performance gap to those clubs was small. The tradeoff is no manufacturer support, since Nike left the golf equipment business in 2016. Check the grooves and grips on any used set, because there are no replacement heads coming.

What's the difference between the Vapor Speed and the Vapor Pro Combo?

The Vapor Speed is a full game improvement iron with a bigger head, more offset, a wider sole, and stronger lofts. The Pro Combo is a players cavity back aimed at low to mid handicaps, with a thinner topline and a forged feel. If you shoot in the 90s or above, the Speed is the one that will actually help you.

What shafts came stock in the Nike Vapor Speed irons?

The stock steel option was a True Temper Dynalite shaft in the 105 gram range, a mid weight profile that suits moderate swing speeds. A lighter graphite option was offered for slower swingers. Because these are only available used now, plenty of sets have been reshafted, so confirm what's actually in the set before you buy.

Why did Nike stop making the Vapor Speed irons?

Nike exited the entire golf club and ball business in August 2016 to focus on shoes and apparel, so the whole Vapor line was discontinued, not just this model. The clubs weren't pulled for performance reasons. Nike's equipment simply never sold well enough against Titleist, Callaway, and TaylorMade despite big tour contracts with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Are the Vapor Speed irons good for high handicappers?

They're built for exactly that player. The perimeter weighting, wide sole, and centered CG make thin and heel strikes far less punishing than a players iron would. A true beginner might still want a hybrid style iron set with even more help, but for most high handicappers the Vapor Speed offers plenty of forgiveness with a more traditional look.
