GolfSource ("we", "us", or "our") operates the GolfSource web application at golfsource.org (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and any profile details you provide (such as a display name). Account authentication is handled by Clerk, Inc. We do not store your password directly — Clerk manages credential security on our behalf.

Golf Performance Data

When you use our iron-matching tool, we collect carry distances you enter for each iron (e.g., 7-iron carry in yards), your self-reported swing speed range, and your handicap range. This data is stored to generate and display your match results and may be used in aggregate (anonymized) form to improve our recommendation algorithms.

Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you visit or use the Service, including your IP address, browser type and version, pages visited, time and date of your visit, time spent on pages, and other diagnostic data. This information is used solely for improving the Service and diagnosing technical issues.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Personalize club recommendations based on your carry distances, swing profile, and playing preferences
  • Improve and develop new features for the Service
  • Generate aggregated and anonymized analytics to improve our algorithms and understand trends in golf equipment usage
  • Share data with golf industry partners (equipment manufacturers, retailers, and service providers) to improve product recommendations, enable personalized offers, and support golf equipment research — see Section 4 for details
  • Communicate with you about Service updates, promotions, and partner offers, if you opt in
  • Monitor usage patterns and diagnose technical issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

3. Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate the Service. Cookies we use include:

  • Session cookies: Required for authentication and to maintain your logged-in state across page loads. These are set by Clerk and expire when you close your browser or sign out.
  • Analytics cookies: Used to understand how visitors interact with the Service in aggregate. These cookies do not identify you personally.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some parts of the Service may not function properly without cookies.

Your Right to Opt Out (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to opt out of the collection and use of your personal information for analytics purposes. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns. To opt out, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or adjust your browser's cookie settings. 4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

Service Providers

We share data with third-party vendors and service providers as necessary to operate the Service:

  • Clerk, Inc.:Handles user authentication, session management, and account security. Clerk's privacy policy governs data they process on our behalf.
  • Vercel, Inc.: Hosts the Service infrastructure. Application logs and performance metrics may be processed by Vercel.
  • Stripe, Inc.: Processes subscription payments. We do not store your card details directly.

Golf Industry Partners

We may share your golf performance data, equipment preferences, and usage patterns with golf equipment manufacturers, retailers, and related businesses for the following purposes:

  • Improving product recommendations and personalized equipment suggestions
  • Enabling targeted promotions and offers relevant to your playing profile
  • Supporting golf equipment research, product development, and market analysis
  • Facilitating club fitting services and trade-in valuations

Data shared with industry partners may include your swing profile (handicap range, swing speed, ball flight, miss tendency), equipment in your bag, carry distances, and equipment preferences. We will not share your email address, name, or contact information with partners without your explicit consent.

By using the Service, you consent to the sharing of your golf performance data as described above. You may opt out of partner data sharing at any time by contacting us at the address below.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information and golf performance data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the address below.

6. Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
