Mallet Putter

Ping doesn't build a mallet with mid toe hang by accident. The PLD Milled Kushin C is made for the player who wants the stability of a bigger head but still swings the putter on a noticeable arc. Most mallets are face-balanced and fight that arc. This one goes with it.

PLD stands for Putting Lab Design, Ping's tour and custom-shop program, and the Milled series takes those shapes and cuts them from a solid billet instead of casting them. The Kushin C carries a clean sightline on top to help you square the face and start putts on line. It sits above Ping's mainstream G-series flat sticks on price, and it feels the part.

If your stroke goes straight back and straight through, the mid toe hang will work against you, and a face-balanced mallet is the smarter pick. But if your putter naturally opens and closes through the ball, this is one of the few high-forgiveness heads that won't feel like it's dragging against your hands.

Design

Milled from a solid aluminum billet, the Kushin C gets a tighter face tolerance and a firmer, more responsive feel than a cast head. The mid toe hang is the real story here. Ping tuned the balance so the head releases on an arc rather than holding square through impact, which is unusual for a mallet this size. Up top there's a single sightline running back from the face to frame the ball and give your eyes a clean reference to aim. The finish and shaping match the rest of the PLD Milled range, so it reads more like a tour piece than an off-the-rack putter.

Who It's For

  • You swing the putter on a slight to moderate arc and want mallet forgiveness without a face-balanced head fighting your stroke.
  • Milled construction and a firmer, more precise feel are worth paying a premium for.
  • You aim better off a single clean sightline than off dots, wings, or busy alignment graphics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ping PLD Milled Kushin C face-balanced or toe hang?
Mid toe hang. That makes it a fit for a slight to moderate arc, not a straight-back-straight-through stroke. It's an uncommon setup for a mallet, since most mallets are face-balanced.
What is the Kushin C milled from?
A solid aluminum billet, in line with the rest of Ping's PLD Milled putters. The milling process gives a tighter face tolerance and a firmer feel than you get from a cast head.
Should I choose a mid toe hang mallet over a face-balanced one?
It depends on your stroke. If the face rotates open and closed naturally through the ball, a mid toe hang head matches that motion and helps you square up on time. If your stroke stays square and moves straight, a face-balanced mallet will suit you better.
Does the Kushin C have an alignment aid?
Yes. It uses a single sightline on the crown to help you square the face and start the ball on your intended line.
How is the PLD Milled Kushin C different from Ping's G-series putters?
The PLD Milled putters are cut from billet and come out of Ping's Putting Lab Design program, with the price and finish to match. The G-series putters are cast, cost less, and are built for everyday players rather than golfers chasing a milled feel.
