Blade Putter
The Anser shape has been around since 1966, and Ping has never really let it go. The PLD Anser is the premium, milled version of that blade, built in Ping's Putting Lab Design shop for players who want the classic look with tighter tolerances and a cleaner finish than a production putter gives you.
This is a heel-toe weighted blade with a plumber's neck, and it plays exactly like you'd expect an Anser to play. Full toe hang means the face wants to rotate open on the way back and closed through impact, so it rewards a stroke that arcs rather than one that goes straight back and straight through. If you fight the putter to keep the face square, you'll feel it. If you let it release, it flows.
The PLD Anser isn't trying to be forgiving in the modern mallet sense. It's a feel putter for a player who already rolls the ball well and wants precise feedback on where they struck it. Miss it in the heel and you'll know. That honesty is the whole point.
Design
Ping mills the PLD Anser from a solid block of 303 stainless steel, and the face gets a precision milling pattern that gives the roll a soft but responsive feel off the strike. Weight sits out toward the heel and toe, which stabilizes the head slightly without pulling it away from the traditional blade profile. The plumber's neck produces the full toe hang that defines how the putter swings. There's an alignment aid on top to help you set the face and the line at address, which is a nice concession to accuracy on a putter that otherwise leans classic and minimal. The finish and the milled detail put this in the premium tier, closer to a small-batch shop putter than to something off the rack.
Who It's For
- You have an arced putting stroke and want a blade whose toe hang matches how the face naturally rotates.
- The Anser shape is what you grew up looking at and nothing else quite settles your eye over the ball.
- You value feedback and feel over maximum forgiveness, and you already strike your putts fairly consistently.
- You want milled-blade quality and finish without going to a boutique custom builder.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What kind of putting stroke does the PLD Anser suit?
- It has full toe hang, so it's built for a stroke with a noticeable arc. The face opens going back and closes through impact on its own. If your stroke is straight back and straight through, a face-balanced mallet will fit you better than this blade.
- How is the PLD Anser different from a regular Ping Anser?
- PLD stands for Putting Lab Design, Ping's premium milled line. The PLD Anser is milled from 303 stainless steel with a precision-milled face and a nicer finish, versus the cast or standard production Anser models. You're paying for tighter tolerances and feel, not extra forgiveness.
- Is the PLD Anser forgiving on mishits?
- Not especially, and that's by design. It's a heel-toe weighted blade, so it's more stable than an old-school flat blade, but it won't rescue a heel or toe strike the way a large mallet will. You'll feel exactly where you hit it, which is what a lot of good putters want.
- Does the PLD Anser have an alignment aid?
- Yes. There's a sightline on the topline to help you square the face and set your start line at address. It's a subtle nod to accuracy on a putter that otherwise keeps the classic Anser look clean and simple.
- What is the PLD Anser made of?
- It's milled from a single block of 303 stainless steel. The solid stainless build gives it a firm, precise feel, and the milled face pattern softens the sound and roll slightly at impact.
