The Tommy Armour 845 carries one of the most recognizable names in iron history. The original 845s Silver Scot from the late 1980s sold in the millions and lived in more amateur bags than almost anything else of its era. This 2020 version is not that club, and it doesn't try to be. It's a modern game improvement iron sold at a price the big equipment companies mostly abandoned years ago.
Tommy Armour is now the house brand of Dick's Sporting Goods, which means you won't find these at your local green grass shop or in a tour van. What you get instead is a set that costs hundreds less than a comparable Callaway or TaylorMade lineup while chasing the same goals: easy launch, real forgiveness on mishits, and enough distance that you're not embarrassed on par 3s.
Does it match the premium names shot for shot? Not quite. But the gap is smaller than the price difference suggests, and for a lot of mid to high handicappers, that math works out in the 845's favor.
