On paper the TaylorMade Qi4D Max and the PXG Lightning are nearly identical. Both are game improvement fairway woods built for high launch, both carry an adjustable hosel, both ship with the same Aldila Ascent 50 regular and Ascent 45 senior stock shafts, and both list at $350. The one real gap is the loft menu. The Qi4D Max offers four heads from 15° to 24°, covering the 3, 5, 7 and 9 wood slots. The Lightning stretches that to six heads from 15° to 27°, adding a 4 wood at 17° and an 11 wood at 27°. That matters most for golfers who want a fairway wood to replace long irons, or who need a tight gap below the driver. Anyone who only wants a 3 or 5 wood will not notice.
Pick the PXG Lightning if you want the widest range of lofts, especially if an 11 wood at 27° or a 4 wood at 17° fills a gap in your bag. Since price, shafts, adjustability and launch profile match, the extra options cost nothing. Pick the TaylorMade Qi4D Max if the four standard lofts already cover your needs and you prefer TaylorMade. Neither choice carries a price penalty, so let the loft you actually need decide.
