The PXG Lightning and the Callaway Quantum Max D are both 2026 game improvement fairway woods aimed at high launch, both have an adjustable hosel, and both ship with the same stock shafts, the Aldila Ascent 50 in regular and the Aldila Ascent 45 in senior. The real split is the loft lineup. The Lightning runs from 15° to 27° across six heads, including a 4W at 17°, a 9W at 24° and an 11W at 27°. The Quantum Max D offers three: 15°, 18° and 21°. That makes the Lightning the better fit for anyone who wants to fill the top of the bag with progressively lofted woods instead of long irons or hybrids, or who wants a gap option between a 3W and a 5W. The Quantum Max D covers the common 3W, 5W and 7W slots and stops there.
If a standard 3, 5 or 7 wood is all you need, the Quantum Max D does the same job for $20 less at list, $330 against $350, with matching shafts and the same adjustability. Pick it if price decides. Pick the Lightning if you want a 4W, 9W or 11W now or later, since that range is the one thing the Callaway cannot match. Feel and distance come down to the individual golfer, so a fitting should settle the rest.
