In short
The Cleveland HB Soft 2 #1 (2026) is a blade putter suited to players with an arcing stroke. It has mid toe hang. It carries a $159.99 MSRP.
Cleveland does not get talked about much in putter conversations, which is strange, because the HB Soft line has been one of the better dollar-for-dollar buys on the rack for years. The HB Soft 2 #1 is the plain one. No wings, no big footprint, no color-blocked flange trying to tell your eye where to aim. It is a heel-shafted blade in the 2026 lineup, and it looks like something you would have found in a pro shop barrel twenty years ago, in the good way.
What you get for the money is feel. The face is milled with a groove pattern that changes depth across the hitting area, shallower in the middle and deeper out toward the heel and toe, so putts struck off the sweet spot don't die four feet short. The sound is a soft click rather than a click and a rattle. If you have been putting with a firm insert and never quite trusted the speed on long lags, this will feel like a different category of contact.
The catch, and there is one, is that this putter asks you to bring your own aim. Cleveland lists it with no alignment aid, so there is no sight line, no dot, no bar on the topline. You set up to the shape of the head and the shaft, and that is it. Some players putt better that way. Plenty don't. Know which one you are before you buy.
Mid toe hang is the number that matters most here. The #1 is a heel-shafted blade, so the toe hangs down at roughly a 45 degree angle when you balance the shaft on your finger, and the head wants to rotate open on the way back and closed through impact. That is a slight-arc stroke, the most common stroke in golf. If your putter path curves naturally and you fight face-balanced mallets that feel like they are dragging behind your hands, this head will sit right. The HydroBlast finish is the other detail worth knowing. It is a pressurized water treatment rather than a paint or plating, and it leaves a matte, slightly rough surface that kills glare in bright sun without looking cheap. Combined with the clean, unmarked topline, the address view is about as quiet as a putter gets in 2026. Nothing on the head competes with the ball for your attention.
Cleveland brings their wedge expertise to putters, focusing on feel and short-game scoring. Their Speed Optimized Face Technology creates consistent ball speed across the face.
