In short
The Argolf Mordred (2021) is a high-MOI mallet built for maximum forgiveness on off-center putts. It has mid toe hang.
Argolf named its putters after Arthurian legend, and the Mordred landed in the 2021 lineup as one of the stranger combinations in the family. It pairs a high MOI head with mid toe hang, which is not a pairing you see often. Most high MOI mallets are face balanced and built for straight-back-straight-through strokes. This one keeps the stability of a big head but lets the face rotate through the stroke the way an arced putter wants it to.
That makes the Mordred a genuinely useful option for a specific kind of player: someone with a natural arc who keeps getting fitted into blades because of their stroke type, but who misses the forgiveness of a mallet. Argolf machines its putters in France, in Brittany, using aerospace-grade milling, and the finish quality reflects that. This is a premium putter with a premium price, and it makes no apologies for either.
One thing to know up front. There is no alignment aid on this head. No sightline, no dots, no flange markings. Argolf left the crown clean, betting that players who aim off the face and the head shape itself will prefer the uncluttered look. Some golfers find that liberating. Others will miss the line immediately.
The head is CNC milled rather than cast, which is where a lot of the cost lives. Milling holds tighter tolerances on face flatness and loft, and it produces that soft, precise feel at impact that cast putters approximate but rarely match. The perimeter weighting pushes mass to the corners of the head, which is what drives the high MOI rating. Off-center hits lose less speed and twist the face less, so your misses stay closer to your intended line and distance. The mid toe hang comes from where Argolf positioned the shaft axis relative to the center of gravity. In practice, hold the shaft horizontally and the toe droops partway toward the ground rather than pointing straight down or staying level. That hang encourages the face to open and close naturally through a moderate arc, so the putter works with that rotation instead of fighting it.
Argolf brings a distinctive approach to putter design, focusing on quality materials, precision manufacturing, and performance-driven engineering.
