Nike Vapor Fly アイアン

ゲームインプルーブメント2016

The Vapor Fly irons ended up being part of Nike's final act in the equipment business. Nike announced its exit from clubs in August 2016, just months after these hit shelves, which makes the Vapor Fly a strange case: a legitimately good game improvement iron that never got a successor. If you find a set today, you're buying a snapshot of where Nike's engineering was when the lights went out.

And that engineering was further along than people gave it credit for. The Vapor Fly used a deep, full-length cavity with Nike's RZN material tucked behind the face to soak up vibration, paired with a wide sole and plenty of offset. It launched high, flew straight, and forgave the kind of contact that mid and high handicappers actually produce. Short and simple: this was built to get the ball airborne with minimum drama.

The catch is support. There's no fitting network, no current shaft matrix, no warranty path. You're buying used, as-is, usually at a steep discount. For a lot of golfers that trade is worth making. For others it's a dealbreaker, and it's fair to know that going in.

要点

About the Nike Vapor Fly

Nike built the Vapor Fly around a hollow-feeling deep cavity with the RZN polymer badge damping the thin face. The head is large at address, the topline is thick, and the finish came in that unmistakable photo blue accent Nike ran across the whole 2016 Vapor line. Nobody would confuse it for a players iron, and Nike didn't want you to. The wide sole does a lot of the work here. It keeps the leading edge from digging on fat strikes and pushes mass low and back, which is why the ball climbs so easily even out of the longer irons. Feel is on the firmer, clickier side compared to a forged head, but the RZN insert takes the harshness out of mishits.

Who Should Play the Nike Vapor Fly?

  • Mid to high handicappers who want maximum forgiveness and don't care about brand cachet now that Nike is out of the club business.
  • Bargain hunters comfortable buying used, since these routinely sell for a fraction of what current game improvement sets cost.
  • Players who struggle to launch the ball and need a high, straight flight more than workability.
  • Nike collectors, honestly. The 2016 Vapor line is the end of the road, and clean sets are getting harder to find.

よくある質問

Are Nike Vapor Fly irons still worth buying in 2026?

For the price, yes, with caveats. The forgiveness and launch still hold up against budget game improvement sets, and used prices are low because Nike left the equipment market. Just know you're giving up modern face tech, current shaft options, and any warranty. If you're a mid handicapper on a budget, they're one of the better value plays out there.

What's the difference between the Vapor Fly and the Vapor Fly Pro?

The Vapor Fly Pro is a smaller, more compact version aimed at better players, with a thinner topline and less offset. The standard Vapor Fly is the full game improvement head: bigger, more forgiving, higher launching. If you shoot in the 80s or above, the standard version is the one you want.

Why did Nike stop making the Vapor Fly?

Nike exited the golf equipment business entirely in August 2016, not long after the Vapor Fly launched. It wasn't a performance problem, the company decided to focus on shoes and apparel. That's why there was never a Vapor Fly 2 and why these only exist on the used market.

Can I still get Nike Vapor Fly irons repaired or reshafted?

Nike won't help you, but any competent club builder can. Reshafting, regripping, and loft or lie adjustments are all standard work on these heads. The one real risk is breaking a club, since replacement heads only come from the used market and matching your exact spec can take some hunting.

Who actually played the Nike Vapor Fly?

The standard Vapor Fly was a consumer iron, so you didn't see it much on tour. Nike's staff players in that era, including Rory McIlroy and Tony Finau, gravitated toward the Vapor Pro and Vapor Fly Pro heads. The standard Fly was built for the weekend golfer, and that's who bought it.
