Players Distance Driver
The 0811 X GEN3 is the middle child of PXG's 2020 GEN3 drivers, the one that splits the difference between raw distance and a little shot control. It runs the full 460cc, launches high, and keeps enough weight movable that you don't have to accept a single flight. Against the more forgiveness-heavy XF, the X reads a touch more neutral in the setup and leaves the door open to working the ball.
What makes it a GEN3 is the honeycomb TPE lining the titanium body behind the face. That soft polymer backs a thin, variable-thickness face so it flexes harder for ball speed, and it kills the tinny sound a big thin-faced head makes when you miss the center. Catch one off the toe and it still feels solid, which is the whole point of the material.
The piece most drivers in this bracket leave out is the tuning. The X carries PXG's perimeter weight track wrapped around the sole, a set of small weights you rearrange to bias the head draw, fade, or neutral and to move mass front to back. Pair that with the adjustable loft and lie hosel and you can genuinely fit this thing to your swing. It comes out of the box launching high, but that is a starting point, not a ceiling.
- You want easy height off the tee but still like the option to shape a shot now and then
- You miss around the face and need the variable-thickness design and honeycomb backing to hold ball speed on off-center hits
- You want a high launch without stepping all the way into a dedicated forgiveness head like the XF
- You like to tinker, and the perimeter weight track plus adjustable hosel give you real range over shape, launch, and spin
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the PXG 0811 X GEN3 adjustable?
- Yes, in two ways. The hosel adjusts loft and lie, so you can raise or lower launch and change your start direction. The sole also has a track of interchangeable weights you rearrange to bias the head draw, fade, or neutral, and to shift the balance point front to back. That is more tuning range than a typical 460cc driver gives you.
- What's the difference between the 0811 X GEN3 and the XF GEN3?
- The X is the more neutral, slightly more workable head that still launches high and delivers distance. The XF is built around maximum forgiveness and stability, with the CG pushed as low and back as PXG could put it. Go with the X if you want easy height with room to shape shots and manage spin. Go with the XF if you want the most forgiving, highest-MOI head in the line.
- Does the 0811 X GEN3 launch high?
- It does. The low CG and 460cc head get the ball up without much effort, which helps players who struggle to launch a driver or want more carry. If you already flight it high and spin it too much, move the sole weights forward and adjust the hosel down to bring it under control.
- What does the honeycomb TPE in the GEN3 driver do?
- It is a soft polymer lining the inside of the titanium body behind the face. It does two things: it backs the thin, variable-thickness face so it flexes harder for more ball speed, and it damps vibration so a big thin-faced head feels and sounds solid instead of tinny, even on a strike off the toe or heel.
- Can you change the shot shape on the 0811 X GEN3?
- Yes. Move the heavier weights in the sole track toward the heel and the head picks up a draw bias that helps square the face. Shift them toward the toe and it takes spin off a hook. You can also adjust the face angle through the hosel. It is not a one-trick draw driver, the weighting and hosel together give you real control over start line and shape.
