Toulon Design San Diego Putter

2022Blade

Tóm lại

The Toulon Design San Diego (2022) is a blade putter suited to players with an arcing stroke. It has mid toe hang.

Blade Putter

The San Diego is the flagship of the Toulon Design lineup for a reason. It follows the classic Anser template that half the putters on tour still trace back to, but Toulon mills it from a single block of 303 stainless steel and finishes it to a standard that Odyssey's mainline putters don't touch. The 2022 version wears the line's charcoal smoke finish, which cuts glare at address and hides wear better than the older silver.

What you're paying for here is the face. Toulon's Deep Diamond Mill pattern is a crosshatch cut in two directions, and the peaks of that pattern soften contact just enough to take the click out of a milled steel face without muting it. Feedback is still honest. Miss it toward the toe and you'll know, which is exactly what blade players tend to want.

There's no insert, no face technology story, no gimmick. It's a milled blade with mid toe hang that asks you to have a stroke and rewards you when you do. At its price, roughly a hundred dollars more than most milled blades from the big brands, that's either an easy yes or an easy no depending on how you feel about paying for finish quality.

Thiết kế

The head is a heel-toe weighted blade with a plumber's neck, which is where the mid toe hang comes from. That amount of hang matches a slight-to-moderate arc, the stroke shape most people who gravitate to blades already have. Toulon also machines two weight ports into the sole, so you can tune head weight to your build length or preference instead of living with one stock spec. At address it's about as quiet as a putter gets. Clean topline, a single simple sight mark on the flange, and nothing else. If you rely on alignment lines or frames to aim, this putter gives you none of that help on purpose. Players who aim off the face and the topline usually find that emptiness calming rather than difficult.

Who It's For

  • Players with a slight or moderate arc in their stroke, since the mid toe hang releases naturally through impact for that shape.
  • Anyone who aims off the topline and finds alignment lines and frames distracting rather than helpful.
  • Blade loyalists who want tour-level milling and finish work and are willing to pay Toulon's premium over a standard Odyssey or Cleveland milled putter.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

What stroke type does the Toulon San Diego suit?
The San Diego has mid toe hang, which fits a slight-to-moderate arc. If your stroke is close to straight back and straight through, a face-balanced mallet will fight you less. If you have a strong arc with a lot of face rotation, you'd want more toe hang than this, but the mid setting covers the majority of blade players.
Does the 2022 San Diego have an alignment aid?
No. There's a minimal sight mark but no lines, dots, or frames designed to help you aim. The look at address is deliberately clean. If you struggle with alignment and depend on visual aids, this is the wrong putter for you, and Toulon would probably tell you the same thing.
How does the Deep Diamond Mill face feel compared to an insert?
Firmer and more talkative. The crosshatch milling softens the strike compared to a flat milled face, but it's still solid steel, so you get a crisper sound and clearer feedback than any Odyssey White Hot insert. On fast greens that firmness helps with distance control. On slow greens some players find they have to hit it harder than they'd like.
Is the Toulon San Diego worth the price over a regular Odyssey putter?
Depends what you value. Functionally, a well-fit Odyssey blade will hole the same putts. The San Diego buys you one-piece 303 stainless milling, the nicer finish, adjustable sole weights, and a putter that holds its looks and resale value better. It's a craftsmanship purchase more than a performance one, and there's nothing wrong with that if you putt with it for ten years.
Can you adjust the weight on the San Diego?
Yes. There are two removable weights in the sole, and swapping them changes total head weight. Heavier weights suit shorter putters and slower greens, lighter ones suit longer builds and faster surfaces. It's worth getting fit or at least experimenting, because head weight affects tempo more than most people expect.
