The 917 D2 is the bigger, more forgiving half of Titleist's 2016 driver pair. At 460cc with a full pear shape, it sits behind the ball looking like it wants to help you, and it does. This is the one Titleist built for players who want distance and a wider margin on mishits, not the shot-shaper's tool that the smaller 917 D3 became.

Two things separate it from the 915 that came before. The Active Recoil Channel got longer and deeper, so the sole flexes more at impact for faster ball speed and lower spin on strikes low on the face. The bigger news was the SureFit CG cartridge, a weight in the sole you can rotate to shift the center of gravity toward the heel or toe. That gives you a real draw, neutral, or fade bias without changing swingweight, and it works alongside the 16-position SureFit hosel for loft and lie.

High launch is the D2's default personality. The deeper CG and larger footprint send the ball up with a bit more spin than the D3, which is exactly what a lot of players need to carry it and hold it in the air. If you already launch it high and spin it too much, this probably isn't your Titleist. If you fight a low, knuckling flight, it is.

What's the difference between the 917 D2 and the D3?

Size and shot behavior. The D2 is 460cc with a fuller pear shape, higher launch, a bit more spin, and more forgiveness. The D3 is 440cc, more compact, launches and spins lower, and rewards a stronger ball-striker who wants to work it. Both share the same face, Active Recoil Channel, and adjustable weighting.

How does the SureFit CG weight work?

It's a cartridge in the sole you rotate to move the center of gravity toward the heel or toe. Set toward the heel it promotes a draw, toward the toe a fade, and centered it plays neutral. It shifts your ball-flight bias without changing the head's swingweight.

What lofts does the 917 D2 come in?

Stock lofts are 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, and 12 degrees. The SureFit hosel then adjusts each one by roughly plus or minus 0.75 degrees across 16 settings, so a 9.5 can effectively play anywhere from about 8.75 to 10.25 degrees.

Is the 917 D2 still worth buying in 2026?

For the used price, yes, if you want forgiveness and real fitting range. The ball-speed gains from newer drivers are small for most swings, and the SureFit hosel and CG cartridge still give you plenty to dial in. What you give up is the face and aerodynamic refinement of later Titleist models.

Does the 917 D2 have adjustable weights?
