Low Spin

Tour 一号木

PXG walked into the driver market in 2016 with something to prove and a price tag that made people choke on their coffee. The 0811 X was the low-spin model in that debut lineup, and at 440cc it ran smaller than the 460cc bombers most companies were pushing. That size difference matters. A 440cc head sits a little more compact behind the ball and lets a good player shape shots without fighting the club.

The X in the name is the tell. This head is built to knock spin off the ball for players who generate their own speed and don't need help getting it airborne. Bob Parsons funded PXG to build clubs without worrying about hitting a price point, and you can see where the money went: multiple movable weights across the sole, a thin titanium face, and a honeycomb TPE polymer packed behind that face to damp the harsh feel a thin face usually gives you.

Ten years on, this is a used-market club, and that changes the math. You're not paying the original $850. You're getting a genuinely adjustable, low-spin tour head for a fraction of what it cost new. For the right swing, that's one of the better deals in used drivers.

  • Faster swingers who spin the ball too much off the tee and lose distance to a ballooning flight
  • Better players who prefer a compact 440cc head they can work both directions
  • Tinkerers who actually enjoy moving weights and testing CG positions on the range
  • Bargain hunters willing to buy used, since the value here is buying a tour head years after its premium launch price
  • Anyone who wants genuine sole-weight adjustability rather than a single slider

常见问题

What's the difference between the PXG 0811 and the 0811 X?
The 0811 X is the lower-spin, more penetrating option. Its center of gravity sits more forward, which cuts spin and flattens the flight. The standard 0811 launches a bit higher with more spin and is the more forgiving of the two. If you already hit it high and spinny, the X is the one you want.
Is the 440cc head hard to hit compared to a 460cc driver?
It's slightly less forgiving on off-center strikes because there's a little less area and a smaller moment of inertia. But for a player who catches the center consistently, the tradeoff is a more workable head that responds to swing shape. Higher handicaps who need max forgiveness are better off elsewhere.
How do the adjustable weights on the 0811 X work?
There's a series of weight ports across the sole that take small interchangeable weights of different masses. You rearrange them to shift the center of gravity forward for lower spin, back for higher launch, or toward the heel or toe to nudge the ball flight. It takes a wrench, and it's worth doing on a launch monitor to see what each setup actually does for you.
Was the PXG 0811 X really worth $850 when it came out?
That price was PXG's whole pitch: build the club without cutting corners, then charge what it costs. The performance was legitimately good, but $850 was a hard sell against $400 to $500 drivers that performed nearly as well. On the used market today it's a much easier club to recommend.
Who should skip the 0811 X?
Slower swing speeds and players who struggle to launch the ball. The X is a low-spin head, and if you don't spin it enough already, it'll rob you of carry and make the flight too flat. Those players want a higher-launching, higher-spin driver instead.
