Adams Golf XTD Gậy sắt

Game Improvement2014

Adams Golf spent years owning the hybrid market, and by 2014 the company was pushing that same thinking into full iron sets. The XTD irons are the result. Long irons built with hollow, hybrid-like construction, scoring irons with a more conventional cavity back, all tied together with the cut-thru slot technology Adams had been refining since the Idea line.

This was one of the last true Adams releases before TaylorMade fully absorbed the brand, and it shows the company swinging big. The face slots and sole slots work together to keep ball speed up on thin strikes, which is where most mid-handicappers actually lose distance. Shots hit low on the face still launch and still carry. That is the whole pitch.

A decade on, the XTD holds up better than you might expect. It looks a bit busy in the bag, and the tech-heavy cavity is not for traditionalists. But if you find one on the used market at the prices they go for now, you are getting a lot of forgiveness per dollar.

About the Adams Golf XTD

The XTD set is really two designs in one. The long irons use a hollow body, closer to a driving iron or slimmed-down hybrid than a standard cavity back, with a thin, fast face that flexes at impact. The short irons drop the hollow construction for a more traditional cavity, so you get some feel and control where you need it. Adams called the connecting tech the Cross Cavity frame, and the slots cut through the sole and crown are doing real work, not just decoration. Offset is moderate for the category, toplines are thicker than a player's iron but not shovel-like, and the sole is wide enough to bail you out of heavy contact. Stock lofts run strong, which was Adams chasing distance the same way everyone did in 2014. Expect the 7 iron to fly like a 6 from an older set.

Who Should Play the Adams Golf XTD?

  • Mid to high handicappers who struggle to launch long irons and want hybrid-like help without carrying four hybrids.
  • Players shopping the used market for maximum forgiveness at a low price, since XTD sets now sell for a fraction of their original cost.
  • Golfers with moderate swing speeds who lose distance on thin strikes and need a face that keeps ball speed up on mishits.
  • Anyone curious about hollow-body long irons, a design Adams ran with years before it became standard across the industry.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Are Adams XTD irons still worth buying in 2026?

For the money, yes. They sell used for well under what a new game improvement set costs, and the hollow long-iron construction still does its job. You give up modern face tech and the lofts of current sets, but the forgiveness is real. Just inspect the slots and face for wear before buying, since these clubs are over a decade old.

What handicap range are the Adams XTD irons for?

Roughly 12 to 30. The hollow long irons and wide soles are built for players who need launch and mishit help. Single-digit players will likely find the offset and strong lofts harder to work with, and Adams made the XTD Forged for that crowd.

What is the difference between the Adams XTD and XTD Forged irons?

The standard XTD is the game improvement model, with cast construction, more offset, and maximum forgiveness. The XTD Forged has a forged face, a thinner topline, and less offset, aimed at better players who still wanted the slot technology. If you shoot in the 90s or above, the standard XTD is the right one.

Do the slots in the Adams XTD irons actually do anything?

They do. The cut-thru sole slot lets the lower part of the face flex more at impact, which protects ball speed on shots struck below center. That is the most common mishit for average golfers. It is the same basic principle behind the slots TaylorMade later put in the RSi and M series after acquiring Adams.

Can I still get replacement shafts or fitting for Adams XTD irons?

Adams no longer exists as a standalone brand, so factory support is gone. Any competent club builder can reshaft them with current aftermarket shafts, though. Stock they came with the Matrix Program F15 graphite or a steel option, and swapping to something modern is a cheap way to refresh a used set.
