High Launch

Game Improvement Fairway Wood

The G400 SFT is Ping's answer to the slice. SFT stands for Straight Flight Technology, and that name is the whole pitch. This is the draw-biased driver in the 2017 G400 lineup, built to pull your ball flight back toward the fairway when it wants to leak right. If you lose shots to the right and you're tired of aiming down the left tree line to compensate, this is the club that tries to fix the cause instead of asking you to adjust for the symptom.

Ping does the correction with weight, not with a gimmick. Extra mass sits in the heel of the 445cc head, which helps the toe rotate through the ball a touch faster and squares the face at impact. The result is a flight that starts a little more to the left and curves right-to-left for most players. It launches high and spins enough to hold that flight in the air, so the draw isn't a low hook that runs out of gas.

One thing to know up front: the SFT has a fixed hosel, so you can't dial in loft or lie. That's a deliberate trade. Ping kept the head simple so all the discretionary weight could go toward the draw bias rather than into an adjustable sleeve. You pick your loft when you buy it and that's the club you play.

  • You fight a slice or a fade you can't get rid of and want the club fighting it with you
  • You want high launch off the tee and don't generate a ton of spin on your own
  • You'd rather set it and forget it than fiddle with an adjustable hosel
  • Mid to higher handicaps who value a predictable ball flight over shot-shaping range

Câu hỏi thường gặp

What does SFT mean on the Ping G400?
SFT is Straight Flight Technology. It's Ping's label for the draw-biased version of the G400 driver. Weight is positioned in the heel of the head to help square the face and curve the ball right-to-left, which counters a slice for right-handed golfers.
How is the G400 SFT different from the standard G400 driver?
Same basic 445cc head and forged face, but the SFT moves internal weight into the heel to promote a draw. The standard G400 is a neutral setup for players who don't slice. If your miss is straight or a slight fade, the standard model is the pick. If it leaks right, the SFT is built for you.
Is the G400 SFT adjustable?
No. The SFT has a fixed hosel, so you can't change loft or lie after purchase. Ping did this on purpose to free up weight for the draw bias. You choose your loft when you order it, so get fit or think carefully about the number you buy.
Will the G400 SFT completely fix my slice?
It reduces a slice, it doesn't erase a swing fault. The heel weighting and draw bias take some curve off the ball, which for many players is enough to keep it in play. A severe, over-the-top slice will still fade some. Think of it as taking the edge off, not guaranteeing a draw.
Does the G400 SFT launch high?
Yes. It's tuned for high launch with enough spin to hold the flight, which suits players with moderate swing speeds who struggle to get the ball up and carrying. Faster, higher-spin players might find it launches higher than they need and could prefer the standard or lower-spin G400 options.
