High Launch

Game Improvement Fairway Wood

The Mavrik Max is Callaway's forgiveness-first driver from the 2020 lineup, sitting between the standard Mavrik and the low-spin Sub Zero. If you slice the ball, lose distance off the toe, or just want a driver that keeps mishits in play, this is the one Callaway built for you. It has the biggest footprint of the three Mavrik heads and the highest MOI, so off-center strikes hold their line better than they have any right to.

Callaway leaned hard on its Flash Face SS20, a face design shaped by machine learning to push ball speed across a wider area, not just dead center. Combine that with the Jailbreak bars linking the crown and sole, and you get a head that stays stiff at impact and transfers more energy into the ball. The Max version adds a movable perimeter weight that lets you dial in a draw or keep things neutral, plus an OptiFit hosel for loft and lie changes.

This is a game improvement driver and it doesn't pretend otherwise. You give up a little of the low-spin, workability edge the Sub Zero offers, but in return you get launch, forgiveness, and a face that flatters a rough day. For a mid-to-high handicapper fighting a slice, that trade is an easy yes.

  • You fight a slice and want a driver with real draw bias plus a weight you can move to fight it further.
  • Mid to high handicappers who lose distance on toe and heel strikes and need the extra forgiveness of a high-MOI head.
  • Players who launch the ball too low and want more height and carry without swinging harder.
  • Anyone who wants adjustability from the hosel and movable weight but doesn't want to fuss with low-spin tour setups.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

What's the difference between the Mavrik Max, standard Mavrik, and Sub Zero?
The Max is the most forgiving with the largest head, highest MOI, draw bias, and high launch. The standard Mavrik is a middle-ground option with a neutral to slight draw bias. The Sub Zero is the low-spin, lower-launch model built for faster swingers and better players who want to work the ball and cut down spin.
Does the Mavrik Max help with a slice?
Yes. It has a built-in draw bias plus an 11-gram movable weight you can set to the draw position to fight a slice further. The head also sits slightly closed at address, which helps players who leave the face open at impact.
How is the Mavrik Max adjustable?
Two ways. The OptiFit hosel lets you change loft up or down and adjust lie, and the movable perimeter weight can sit in a draw or neutral position to tune shot shape. That covers most of what a game improvement player needs without getting into tour-level tinkering.
Is the Mavrik Max a good driver for high handicappers?
It's one of the better game improvement drivers from its era for higher handicaps. The large head, high MOI, and forgiving Flash Face SS20 keep mishits closer to your target line and hold ball speed on off-center strikes, which is exactly what an inconsistent striker wants.
What lofts does the Mavrik Max come in?
It's offered in standard lofts around 9, 10.5, and 12 degrees, and the OptiFit hosel lets you adjust each of those a couple degrees in either direction. Most players fighting low launch or a slice do well starting at 10.5 or 12.
